Major Hazard Facility Operator Survey for Guide
Safe Work Australia is updating our guidance materials for Major Hazard Facilities (MHFs) and are seeking your views and feedback to help us improve these guides. These 9 MHF guides provide information to help MHF operators comply with MHF regulations under the model Work Health and Safety (WHS) laws, along with any other materials provided by your WHS and MHF regulator.
Please note that this survey is only for the purposes of improving the current guidance material. This survey will not address any issues within the model WHS Regulations and will not be used to make any changes to any MHF Regulations.
Who is the survey for?
All MHF Operators and/or staff who have used any of the 9 MHF guides are welcome to provide feedback to us. This also includes anyone who has been looking at the guides for information ahead of notifying their regulator about potentially becoming an MHF.
Who are we?
Safe Work Australia is an Australian government body that develops national policy for WHS and workers’ compensation. Our work includes:
- developing and evaluating the model WHS legislative framework,
- undertaking research, and
- collecting, analysing and reporting on national WHS and workers' compensation data.
As a national policy body, we do not regulate WHS laws. The Commonwealth, states and territories are responsible for regulating and enforcing WHS laws in their jurisdictions. Currently, the model WHS laws have been implemented by the Commonwealth and all states and territories except Victoria and Western Australia. MHF regulations can usually be found as part of a jurisdiction’s WHS laws.
Structure of the survey
This survey seeks feedback on each guide. You may choose to provide feedback on all 9 guides or just the guides that you have worked with. If you wish to provide feedback for more than one guide, you will need to submit the survey multiple times (one for each guide).
This survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete (per guide).
We will accept responses from operators and staff who have worked with any of the 9 MHF guides, including those from facilities which are currently being designed or decommissioned. There is also an option of providing us with feedback on other issues you have encountered with the guides.
A PDF copy of the survey can be downloaded from the panel on the right hand side of this page, so you can consider and draft your responses ahead of time.
Confidentiality and anonymity
As part of the survey, we would like to collect some high-level background information about your facility (i.e. which state or territory you operate in, the industry your MHF is a part of etc.). These questions are optional. This information will be kept confidential and will not be reported in a way that any facility can be identified.
You will have the following options if you complete the survey:
- You may wish to provide your contact details, so we can follow up and clarify any responses you provide in this survey if it is required.
- Alternatively if you prefer you may leave your contact details blank, your responses will be anonymous.
All information you provide will be treated confidentially. All personal information collected by Safe Work Australia is protected by the Privacy Act 1988. For more information about Privacy at Safe Work Australia, please refer to our Privacy webpage.
